Debbie Bivens

Debbie "The Delta Diva" Bivens Jazz Vocalist/Entertainer Mobile's own, Miss Debbie Bivens, professionally known as "The Delta Diva", has recently resurged her career as a Jazz/Pop Vocalist.

Born in Mobile, Alabama, Bivens began her career at 17 with a move to Cleveland, Ohio. There she made her public singing debut at the Mayflower Gold Ballroom with Lou Ragland (Lou Ragland's Ink Spots) & Hot Chocolate. Soon thereafter, she signed to record on the Co-Co Cleveland (The Louman Corporation) Record Label , which was co-owned by several record executives, including Ragland and Bivens' late cousin, Lyman Moffatt. That association allowed creation of many lead and backup vocals for various recordings and extensive travel and professional work throughout the region, including as a regular on the "Pete Carey TV Show" a local entertainment show which aired on WJW TV in Cleveland. She's had the honor and good fortune to do studio work and auditions with Donny Hathway, Leroy Hudson and Motown Records. Bivens made her hometown debut at the Mardi Gras Social Club in the early 70's. She has been lead vocalist and recording artist to local greats such as Joe Morris, Sr., Teddy Arthur, Joe Lewis, Jimmy Woods and The Lewis Brothers. She performed extensive studio recording vocals work with the late Charlie Foxx of the Charlie & Inez Foxx duo, known for their "Mockingbird" hit. She has, and continues to perform for numerous Mardi Gras Balls associations in Mobile, as well. She has traveled and performed extensively throughout the South and Gulfcoast Delta regions. Bivens relocated to the Pacific Northwest coast in Seattle, where she spent 18 years working as a Human Resources Specialist for the National Maritime Union of America (AFL-CIO). Occasionally performing in Seattle, Washington, Studio City, California, Los Angeles, California, [and, most recently, in Tucson, Arizona with Lisa Otey's "Desert Diva" Revue], Bivens has also shared billing with Phil Perry and Dennis "Finger Roll" Nelson at the Mobile Civic Center and The Salt Creek Grill in Valencia, California. The Delta Diva is currently packing houses with her smooth Jazz sounds throughout the Mobile and Florida regions. As a member of MOJO (Mystic Order Of The Jazz Obsessed), she received rave reviews for her recent tribute [January '04] to the late Sarah "Sassy" Vaughan, performing for a "standing-room only" crowd.

She's currently a stay at the Renaissance Café in downtown Fairhope, singing her smooth Jazz the way that only "The Delta Diva " can. Look for The Delta Diva's debut Jazz CD, "A Picture Of Me" to be released Summer 2004. A great talent, indeed, she is "The Delta Diva". 'The Delta Diva' is available as a powerhouse headliner act or as an opening act for touring artists. Booking Info: 251.599.9217 or 251.471.4653
