Bill Blackburn, 62, of Florence, passed away Sunday, Dec. 10, 2006, at ECM Hospital.

The funeral service will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Elkins Funeral Home chapel. Stan Dean will officiate. Burial will follow in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Bill was a lifelong resident of Florence. He had been a store owner and carpet layer. He was a good father, grandfather and friend. He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny and Ora Marie Blackburn; a son, Johnny D. Mc-Kelvey; and a twin sister, Betty Jenkins. He was a member of Killen Church of Christ.

He had a great love for music and song writing. Along with Donnie Fritts, he wrote, "That Woman," which has been recorded by Delbert McClinton, Wilson Pickett, Jose Feliciano and Johnny Nash, and, "I've Really Got Something To Be Proud Of," recorded by Willie Charles Gray, and many songs recorded by Eddie Hinton.

Bill is survived by a son, Jeff Blackburn and his wife, Holly, Florence; a sister, Dean LeMay, Killen; brother, Bobby Blackburn, Florence; grandchildren, Jason Mc-Kelvey and Julian Blackburn; and a very special lifelong friend, Donnie Fritts.

Pallbearers will be Dan Penn, Bobby Brewer, Spooner Oldham, Billy Lawson, Scott Boyer and Linford Rickard.

Honorary pallbearers will be Carroll Dunham, Ronnie Oldham, Kelvin Holly, Roger Hawkins, David Hood, Jimmy Johnson, N.C. Thurman, Delbert McClinton and all his songwriting friends.

The family would like to thank Dr. Paul and Dr. Boorgu and their staff. Elkins Funeral Home is assisting the family.
