1997 Studio Musician Award

Jerry Bridges grew up in Red Bay, AL,. where he was influenced by the R&B emerging from nearby Muscle Shoals. He played in local bands and did demo sessions when he could and set his sights on becoming a studio player. His break came when he was approached by Rick Hall, who invited him to play on a recording by teen sensation Donny Osmond.

The session turned into a four-year stint as a staff musician at FAME Recording Studio. When the bass player didn't show up for a Clarence Carter recording session, Bridges became a bass player.

Bridges moved to Nashville and immediately began working with Waylon Jennings on the Dukes of Hazzard soundtrack. After contributing bass work on the Waylon's Greatest Hits album, Waylon asked him to join him on the road and they've been together ever since. Bridges' role with Jennings gradually expanded to include those of songwriter and producer.

In addition to Waylon Jennings, Bridges has performed with Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt, George Jones, and many others.

As a session player and producer Bridges has been a part of more than a score of gold, platinum and Top Ten records, and he has performed on stage and in the studio with many of this generations top performers. He has also done film and television scoring, and owns his own 24-track studio, but it is his work with Waylon Jennings that has earned him his lasting reputation. As lead guitarist, bandleader, musical director and tour manager for Jennings, Bridges has had a key role in one of popular music's all-time great legacies.
