John Briggs is Vice President, Membership Group, of ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers.) Aside from signing new members to ASCAP from all genres of music, John is responsible for assisting writers with royalties and distributions. He joined the ASCAP staff in 1985 and over the years has helped numerous writers obtain recording and publishing deals.

Dedicated to the advancement of music, John is an active member of a number of music industry organizations. He currently serves on the board of the Academy of Country Music (ACM), is a current governor of the Nashville Chapter of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS), and past board member of the Nashville Entertainment Association (NEA). He also serves as an advisor to the Georgia Music Industry Association (GMIA) and is a graduate of Leadership Music (1993). In addition, John is a member of the Country Music Association (CMA), Gospel Music Association (GMA) and Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI). John received the Alabama Governor's Award in 1997 for his involvement in the entertainment industry.

John earned a degree in Commercial Music from the University of North Alabama in 1983. He has an extensive history in the music business, having previously worked for Screen Gems/Colgems EMI, House of David Recording Studio and Wishbone Music Publishing in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.

John has played a key role in bringing many well known acts to ASCAP including the Dixie Chicks, Brad Paisley, Deana Carter, Alan Jackson, Clint Black, Little Texas, ZZ Top, The Cranberries, Brian McKnight, Backstreet Boys, and Jessica Simpson. His commitment to the music industry is evident as he continues to sign valuable new acts to ASCAP.
