In addition to his film work, Brown's songs have found their way onto recordings by Jimmy Buffett, Kim Carnes, Eddie Rabbit, The Little River Band, Loretta Lynn, Kenny Rogers, Tanya Tucker, Smokey Robinson, Ernest Tubb, Brenda Lee, Paul Davis, Billy Joe Royal, Glen Campbell, Merle Haggard, Charlie Rich, Jennifer Warnes, Terri Gibbs, Gary Morris, Maureen McGovern, Dorsey Burnette, Ronnie Milsap, Randy Travis, Anne Murray, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Roy Rogers, John Anderson, Tom Jones, Charlie McCoy and many others.

His songs have garnered two Grammy nominations, a Country Music Association award, People's Choice finalist award, and he was the winner of a National Association of Theater Owners American Movie Award.
