Miss Burkhardt attended the Houston Conservatory of Music and has studied with such noted pedagogues as William Vennard, Elisabeth Wood, and Frances Bible. She was a finalist in the Southwest regional Metropolitan Opera auditions in San Antonio.

In Los Angeles, Miss Burkhardt debuted as a Wagnerian soprano with the COTA Symphony. She also appeared with the Beach Cities Symphony and the San Bernadino Symphony Orchestra. An exceptionally versatile artist, Miss Burkhardt is in constant demand for her Cajun & Plantation concerts, performed in costume throughout the southwest. She was the singing mistress of ceremonies in a pair of concerts with the New Orleans Pops Orchestra, during which she shared the stage with the legendary clarinetist, Pete Fountain. She recorded Civil War Songs for the New Orleans Historic collection Museum; from this collection she produced another popular concert (performed in antebellum costume) which she performed regularly at the Louisiana World's Fair.
