Celia Froehlig

VP, Director of Publishing

IN HER FORMER LIFE SHE ENJOYED A LUSTRIOUS CAREER AS A “TORCH SINGER” MAYBE YOU REMEMBER HER, THEN AGAIN, MAYBE YOU DON’T.

SHE DOESN’T SING ANYMORE, BUT THE CALL OF MUSIC WAS TOO STRONG AND EVENTUALLY LED HER INTO YET ANOTHER SIDE OF THE BUSINESS, MUSIC PUBLISHING. SHE HAD OFTEN WONDERED, ,WHO HAD WRITTEN ALL THE SONGS SHE HAD SUNG. SHE COULD NOT QUIT THINKING ABOUT THIS ,SO SHE MOVED TO NASHVILLE WHERE SHE FOUND A JOB IN PUBLISHING WITH HILL & RANGE SONGS, WHICH BECAME A PART OF CHAPPELL MUSIC…… WHICH BECAME A PART OF WARNER BROTHERS BROTHERS MUSIC……. Whew! . SHE WONDERED WHY SHE EVER GAVE UP SINGING? OPPORTUNITY PRESENTED ITSELF WHEN SHE WAS OFFERED THE POSITION TO RUN EMI MUSIC PUBLISHING IN NASHVILLE. AFTER EMI SHE THEN DECIDED THAT IT WOULD BE VERY COOL TO ACTUALLY “ OWN SONGS HERSELF” SO SHE OPENED FROEHLIG/PALMER MUSIC . SHE DISCOVERED IT WAS” EXTEMELY COOL”, BUT EVENTUALLY RAN OUT OF MONEY TO SUPPORT HER MUSIC HABIT. JUST WHEN SHE THOUGHT SHE WAS FINALLY OVER HER ADDICTION ,THE MUSIC CALLED YET AGAIN AND NOW SHE IS BACK AS VICE-PRESIDENT OF PUBLISHING AT BLACK RIVER MUSIC GROUP. MAYBE YOU REMEMBER HER, THEN AGAIN, MAYBE YOU DON’T……

SOURCE is movin’ on up, in every way. The organization’s eighth annual awards presentation honoring women in the Nashville music business featured a new venue, more attendees than ever, the announcement of its exhibit at the Nashville Airport, splendid food and an excellent roster of honorees.

Beginning with the last, saluted this year were Celia Froehlig, Carol Phillips, Sherytha Scaife, Liz Thiels, Ruth White and Frances Preston. Co-host Jeannie Seely presented Phillips, drawing chuckles when she noted that the honoree had worked for Bob Beckham for 35 years at both Combine and Hori-Pro. Beckham took the stage to say that Phillips and 2006 SOURCE honoree Carolyn Sells, “were probably more responsible for any success Combine had than I ever was. I really love what SOURCE is doing for these ladies. If it wasn’t for these ladies, we wouldn’t have a music business.
