alformed in Nashville, Tenn., during the prophesied chaos of Y2K, FATGNAT group-writes their material in the vein of guitarist Kevin Hogan's ancient stone tapes. Hogan, a former old bass player, has reinvented himself as a young axe-strangler. In cahoots with Hogan is former young guitarist Joseph Butler handling the old bass-guy chores. Butler initially thought he was auditioning for a "reality" TV show; to maintain the ruse, every week other members vote him out of the band. Desperately trying to stitch together a rhythm amongst the chaos, Jim Dye utilizes a variety of contraptions - including drums - that surrender noises when struck with blunt objects. And, in an effort to find melody where none should exist, sax man Mark "Smiley" Shenkel provides a personal mixture of wind and saliva to power the brass albatross around his neck.

What is the FATGNAT sound? It's a jazz/improv/mathrock/fusion thingy: GARAGE JAZZ! Whatever you call it, FATGNAT insist they play music! Decide for yourself, and be warned: these sounds are not for the hardly feint! When asked about the name, any member of FATGNAT may be found replying thusly: "Friend, All The Good Names Are Taken!"

FATGNAT is available for concerts, events, soundtracks, parties & three, five and seven-legged races.
