Pee Wee

THE ORIGINAL GOSPEL HARMONETTES

The Original Gospel Harmonettes were one of gospel music’s most prolific groups. They were very sleek and stylish but never forgot that the primary focus was the spreading of the “good news” that is associated with gospel music. The roster boasted many members who were mostly substitutes when a founding member was not available. The main roster of the Original Gospel Harmonettes consisted of six women and, later, one man. The Harmonettes, as they were affectionately nicknamed, was comprised of Mrs. Evelyn Starks Hardy, Mrs. Mildred Madison Howard, Mrs. Odessa Edwards, Mrs. Willie Mae Thomas Newberry Garth, Mrs. Vera Conner Kolb, and Mrs. Dorothy Love Coates. Mr. Herbert “Pee Wee” Pickard was eventually added to the line-up as an accompanist and eventual successor to Mrs. Evelyn Starks Hardy.
