When Kerry Gilbert began the KGB in 1992, he never imagined that he would still be getting to do what he loves today. After working with some of the best musicians in the Shoals area and in Nashville, Kerry has put together a group of six individuals who all have a passion for entertaining. Donny Carpenter, Mitchell Curtis, Shane Goodson, Randy Kimbrough and Jim Seales have joined Kerry to complete a band that has become one of the most talked about bands in North Alabama.

Because these guys have all come from different musical backgrounds and have worked with some of the most well known musicians in the United States, they are able to provide a unique blend of musical genres. They have such a chemistry on stage that it draws their audiences in and brings them to their feet time and time again.

"This band is definitely the best collection of musicians that I have ever worked with, I am amazed at their overall attitude...these guys are like family to me." -- Kerry Gilbert

The KGB plays at the Muscle Shoals High School Auditorium in Muscle Shoals, Alabama the second Saturday of every month. They also perform at festivals across North Alabama and provide live entertainment for wedding receptions and other private parties.

KERRY WAS BORN AND RAISED IN RUSSELLVILLE, AL. THE SON OF A CHURCH OF CHRIST MINISTER, KERRY GREW UP SINGING IN THE CHURCH. HE DEVELOPED HIS KEEN EAR FOR HARMONY THERE. HIS GREATEST JOY WAS GETTING TOGETHER WITH HIS FAMILY AND SINGING GOSPEL TUNES. HIS SISTER AND TWO BROTHERS ALL HAD THE ABILITY, AS WELL, TO HEAR HARMONIES, AND SING THEM WELL. HIS FAMILY IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO HIM, SECOND TO HIS RELATIONSHIP TO GOD.
KERRY REMEMBERS, AS A CHILD, GOING PLACES WITH HIS PARENTS, RIDING IN THE BACK SEAT, LISTENING TO 8-TRACK TAPES OF THE STATLER BROTHERS AND THE OAK RIDGE BOYS. HE WOULD SING THE BASS PARTS, TRYING TO COPY THEM AS BEST AS HIS YOUNG VOICE WOULD ALLOW. HE WAS SINGING BASS, AT A VERY EARLY AGE. HE STATES, " I GUESS I WAS HITTING SOME OF THOSE BASS NOTES AROUND THE AGE OF 11.  HE ALWAYS DREAMED OF ONE DAY, SINGING WITH THE OAK RIDGE BOYS.
HE STARTED  PLAYING THE PIANO IN THE SECOND GRADE.  HE WISHES NOW HE  HAD LISTENED TO HIS MOTHER, AND PRACTICED THE PIANO MORE.  HE GOT A LITTLE OLDER, STARTED PLAYING FOOTBALL AND WATCHING GIRLS, LEAVING THE PIANO BEHIND AFTER THE EIGHTH GRADE. AS HE ENTERED HIGH SCHOOL, HE AND A COUPLE OF FRIENDS STARTED A TRIO, SINGING THE GATLIN BROS. AND THE OAK RIDGE BOYS' SONGS ACCAPELA.
THIS INSPIRED HIM SO MUCH, THAT WHEN THEY GRADUATED HIGH SCHOOL, THEY DECIDED TO CONTINUE SINGING TOGETHER, AND FORMED A QUARTET. THEY CALLED THEMSELVES MOUNTAIN BREEZE. THIS WAS THE SUMMER OF 1985. THEY BEGAN PLAYING FUNDRAISERS AND LOCAL EVENTS. AND BEFORE LONG, THEY DEVELOPED QUITE A FOLLOWING. MOUNTAIN BREEZE TRAVELED WITH A FOUR PIECE BAND, PLAYING MOSTLY IN ALABAMA, TENNESSEE, AND MISSISSIPPI. THEY DID THE FAIR CIRCUITS, AND HAD THE PRIVILEGE OF BEING THE OPENING ACT FOR NUMEROUS WELL KNOWN MAJOR RECORDING ARTISTS, INCLUDING GEORGE STRAIT.
AFTER TAKING A YEAR OFF,IN 1992, KERRY COULDN'T STAND IT ANYMORE. HE WAS MISSING THE MUSIC BUSINESS. IT WAS IN HIS BLOOD.
HE FELT THAT HE NEEDED TO BE SINGING AGAIN. SO HE GOT HIS CONTACT BOOK OUT, AND STARTED WHERE HE LEFT OFF. HE BEGAN TO BOOK CONVENTIONS, WEDDING RECEPTIONS, AND LOCAL EVENTS.
THIS TIME, HE WANTED SOMETHING A LITTLE DIFFERENT. AS OPPOSED TO THE EIGHT PIECE BAND ( FOUR SINGERS AND FOUR PICKERS), THAT HE WAS ACCUSTOMED TO, HE DECIDED TO PUT TOGETHER A SELF-CONTAINED GROUP, HAVING ONLY FIVE MUSICIANS AND EACH OF THEM CONTRIBUTING TO THE VOCAL HARMONIES. KERRY PICKED UP THE ACOUSTIC GUITAR AND TAUGHT HIMSELF HOW TO PLAY. IT PROVED TO BE A GREAT EFFORT, HAVING A SMALLER BAND.
AND AFTER HAVING THE PLEASURE OF WORKING WITH SOME OF THE SHOALS AREAS GREATEST MUSICIANS, KERRY FEELS THAT HE HAS FINALLY FOUND THE RIGHT COMBINATION.
"THIS BAND WE HAVE NOW, IS THE BEST COLLECTION OF MUSICIANS THAT I HAVE EVER WORKED WITH", HE STATES. KERRY IS AMAZED AT HOW GOOD THE ATTITUDE OF THIS BAND IS. HE SAYS THAT THESE GUYS ARE LIKE FAMILY TO HIM. "I REALLY DO LOVE THESE GUYS. I HAVE WORKED WITH WELL OVER 100 MUSICIANS, SINCE 1985, AND I HAVE SHARED THE STAGE WITH SOME VERY HIGHLY RESPECTED PICKERS. BUT THIS COMBINATION WORKS FOR US", HE ADDS.
KERRY IS LOOKING FORWARD TO THE FUTURE WITH THIS BAND, THE KGB.
