Earl "Peanutt" Montgomery

Earl Montgomery spent many years in the music industry as one of Nashville's top song writers and musicians. His songs were recorded by artist such as George Jones, Tammy Wynette, Tanya Tucker, Emmylou Harris, Dolly Parton, Porter Wagoner, Hank Williams, Jr., Barbara Mandrell, Johnny Paycheck, Jody Miller, Merle Haggard, Eddie Arnold, Mel Street, Jimmie Davis, Bobby Bare, David Houston, Sammie Smith, Freddie Hart, Connie Smith, Melba Montgomery (Earl's sister) and many others. During Earls song writing career, he wrote 38 of George Jones' single-side records. He wrote such hit songs as "We're Gonna Hold On", co-written with George Jones; "What's Your Mama's Name, Child", co-written with Dallas Frazier; "One Of These Days"; "Let's All Go Down To The River, There's A Man Walking On The Water", co-written with Sue Richards; "4033"; "Loving You Could Never Be Better", co-written with Charlene Montgomery; "Small Time Laboring Man"; "Where Grass Won't Grow"; "Someday My Day Will Come" and many more.

Earl spent lots of time in Fame Recording Studio in Muscle Shoals, Alabama and CBS Studios in Nashville as a musician. He picked on such hit records as "You Better Move On" by Arthur Alexander, "Hey Everybody" by Tommy Roe, "Hooked On Music" by Mac Davis and lots of other hit records.

Earl toured with Michael Landon (Little Joe on Bonanza), worked with Red Foley, Cowboy Copus and the Willis Brothers on the road and on the Grand Ole Opry; played in the band with Billy Sherrill, one of Nashville's top record producers and Rick Hall of Muscle Shoals, Alabama.

On May 17, 1976, Earl's life was completely changed. He found the Lord Jesus Christ. The Lord totally changed Earl, his career and his life style; gave him new avenues, new friends, new hopes and ambitions. Four years after Earl became a Christian, he began preaching and pastoring. He is currently pastoring Oakwood Baptist Church in Sheffield, Alabama.

Earl and his wife, Charlene, have one daughter, Teresa. They reside in Sheffield, Alabama, where they own and operate Sweetwater Gospel Recording Studio and Mister Magic Music Publishing Company. Earl and Charlene are now writing gospel songs. Earl has recently had a hit record on the national charts by Kenny Price entitled "Ol Mose". Earl's hobby is building and flying radio control model aircraft.
