Scott McDavid

Originally from Birmingham Alabama, now in Atlanta Georgia, Scott McDavid has been a musician since he could reach the keys. He also played drums in various garage bands through high school, then studied music theory with a major in Composition at the University of Montevallo, where he received the "Scholastic Award of Achievement" for composing the music for an original musical play put on by the University's Arts Dept.. He began performing live (as keyboardist) with local cover bands in the late 70's; by 1983 was awarded the "Salem Spirit Star Search" southeast region Grand Prize with his band "KD Ryzer". In 85 he joined the band "Split The Dark" (a group re-established from MCA recording artists 'Hotel'), which took First Place in the 1986 MTV "Basement Tapes" national contest with the band's song/video "Always A Chance". This success won them a month's worth of regular rotation on MTV for the video, and also received notable airplay on MTV Japan. STD became a "Large Venue" act, opening for artists like Joe Walsh (Eagles), and performing Top bill at music festivals such as "RiverFest" in Little Rock Arkansas. "Split The Dark" disbanded after McDavid left to take a gig with Jazz saxaphonist Elmo Hooten (87 - 88). McDavid became a high demand session keyboardist in the Birmingham area, and in 1988 he set up shop in a recording studio in Birmingham as a co-owner and producer. There he would compose and produce a significant body of work, many of which were commissions for advertising (jingles) for which he received numorous awards such the Addy and Siver Microphone awards. From '88 to '91, along with his work at the studio, he continued to perform live with various artists and bands, one of which was Jazz Guitarist and Nova Records recording artist Eric Essix, appearing on Essix's Nova release "Second Thoughts", which featured the McDavid composed and produced "Margaret Street". In 1991 McDavid moved to Atlanta under a studio contract, where he composed and produced another Addy award winner. Then in '92, free of any contracts, he went on to independently compose and produce 3 more Addy winners over the next 4 years (5 Addy and 5 Silver Microphone awards).

He continues his career as a Composer and Keyboardist, and is performing with various artists on a regular basis. He recently performed for well known artists such as: Branford Marsalis, Craig Morgan, Johnny Lee, Darryl Worley, Chalee Tennison, Trick Pony, Steve Azar, Billy Dean, Chad Brock, Neal McCoy, Daron Norwood, Steve Cropper (the Soul Man himself).

Other than the CD, and playing with “The Mustangs” and the occasional gig with “The Horndogs”, there’s not a lot happening. Have done some recent corp music work, and I think there’s a new documentary to score soon.
