Since the company was formed, Steve has been working on projects for such record companies as: Sony Corporation (Columbia-Epic), BMG Domestic (N.Y.) and International (Belgium-London), Elektra, Atlantic, Malaco, LA CALIFUSA, Inc., Sky Ranch Records (Paris, France; and on several local projects through Muscle Shoals Sound Studios in Alabama. Steve has been traveling throughout the United States engineering, mixing and producing for these companies in different cities such as : New York, Los Angeles, Nashville, Atlanta, Florida, etc.

Previously, he was employed by Muscle Shoals Sound Studios in Sheffield, Alabama from 1971 through 1980, then became self-employed. From 1980 through to the present Steve continues to do work with Muscle Shoals Sound Studios as an engineer/mixer for their clients, as well as working on different creative projects as a engineer/producer/mixer in major cities around the United States and Europe.

Steve's work as an engineer/mixer has been nominated several times for a Grammy (Etta James & Percy Sledge recently) and has received several Gold & Platinum Records (Lynyrd Skynyrd, Bob Seger, Glenn Frey, Art Garfunker, and recently Sawyer Brown & Vaya Con Dios).

Steve's creative genius has continued to astound his clients year after year. To quote an old master in the music business, Jerry Wexler: "There's an old music biz saw, 'We'll fix it in the mix.' Fixing was never a consideration, because Steve Melton, my longtime wizard engineer at Shoals, took a listen and flat nailed it." (Aside to Melton: How did you get that bass sounding so rich and nourishing? Makes me wonder if you've been holding out on me......)
