Tony Ruffino (born in New York) is a concert promoter and former owner of the Five Points South Music Hall. He was living in New York, booking tours for the likes of Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin when he moved to Birmingham to produce events at the BJCC in 1979. He hired Gary Weinberger and with him and Dan Nolen opened Brothers Music Hall, which grew into the booking company New Era Productions.

New Era went on to launch the Five Points Music Hall and the Oak Mountain Amphitheater.

In 2010 Ruffino was presented the Alabama Music Hall of Fame's "Sam Phillips Innovator Award".

One nice thing to see is that this is NOT a LiveNation gig. The promoter is Red Mountain Entertainment from here in Birmingham. Red Mountain's main guys are Gary Weinberger and John Ruffino. Gary was partners for years with Tony Ruffino (John's dad) in New Era Productions and built Oak Mountain Amphitheatre (now Verizon Wireless). Clear Channel bought them out and then LiveNation swallowed Clear Channel. Tony retired and John and Gary started up Red Mountain.

Tony Ruffino and Gary Weinberger totally put Birmingham and Tuscaloosa on the map, concert-wise in the '70s and '80s and into the '90s with Oak Mountain Amphitheatre. Music fans here owe them a huge debt of gratitude. Then, Clear Channel and LiveNation totally screwed everything. Hopefully Red Mountain will continue to succeed in the shadow of LiveNation.
