Lucy Russell, Historian

A connoisseur in various cultural fields, Lucy Hallman Russell pursues a passion for sharing her knowledge of culture, the arts and history with others. She holds four diplomas: in piano, musicology and harpsichord (Universities of Montevallo and Alabama; Superior Music Academies of Munich and Stuttgart). She has pursued studies in 17th century music at the University of Munich, as well as Art History and Italian Literature.

Her 30-year teaching experience at the Conservatory and the Superior Academy of Music in Würzburg, and at the University of Maryland Munich Campus, has refined her pedagogical skills. As guest professor Lucy Russell has been invited to teach in Prague, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Boston and in Italy.

She has enjoyed an international concert career as harpsichordist, organist and chamber musician (USA, Europe, Russia, China) and has led cultural study tours in 16 countries, while also publishing articles on travel, culture and music history. For six years Lucy organized an Early Music Seminar on historical instruments in the Deutsches Museum in Munich and has been active in international musician exchanges.

Lucy is a true polyglot, speaking four languages fluently, plus another couple when needed. Besides languages and travel, her interests also extend to prehistoric archeology and nature.
