The Nashville-based Country Music Association has named Peggy Whitaker its first director of strategic planning and administration.

Whitaker's appointment comes as the CMA begins 2006 with several personnel changes in the Executive, Marketing and Finance/Administration Departments.

Whitaker, a 20-year CMA veteran, has served as the director of administration for the CMA Board of Directors since 1997 and began with the association in 1985 as an administrative assistant.She will work directly with CMA Chief Strategic Officer Ed Benson and with the CMA board in helping to determine the strategic direction for CMA's future. "Having worked with Peggy for 20 years, I know she always brings outstanding skills and experience to everything she does," Benson said in a release.

Whitaker retired from CMA in August 2007.
